Astonishingly, the village of Comrie formerly managed to support two pipe bands and one of Scotland's major pipe band competitions was held in the Laggan Park there. Indeed, newspapers at the time commented that victory in the Comrie competition was coveted above all the others and was the test of a real Championship Band! Such activities (as usual) were built on the enthusiasm and efficiency of a few individuals and most particularly that of Alex McGregor, then Secretary of Comrie and District Piping Association, whose late daughter Jenny lived in Comrie.Recent years have brought many highlights over and above the annual performances at local Games, the Hogmanay Flambeaux Parade and the like. Taking part in the largest Massed Band in the World along Princes Street, Edinburgh in 1995 was certainly one such highlight. Beating Retreat at Lennoxlove House in the middle of a March night in 1997 was perhaps another, but above all these come the happy memories of playing in many interesting places most particularly in Canada in 1994 and 1997 based in Carleton Place, while more recently the Band's touring has covered slightly shorter distances to the likes of Wick including playing at John O'Groats. Could Land's End be next?
The Band has enjoyed very generous support from the local community which it tries to repay by playing as often as possible at local events - though only when asked! Band policy remains to be non-competitive but to strive for improvement towards the aim of being 'the best village pipe band' - at least in Comrie.
